Asset spotlight – 2026 US midterm elections: Setting the political course for the next two years

The US midterm elections will take place on 3 November 2026. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate will be contested. The central question is whether the Republicans can defend their majorities in Congress or whether President Donald Trump will have to govern with a Democrat-controlled House of Representatives. Prediction markets indicate that the Democrats have a realistic chance of gaining a majority in Congress. But what would a divided government mean for the financial markets?
